Luing Bulls sold to 17,000gns and averaged more than £4,840 in the breed society’s premier show and sale at Wallets Marts, Castle Douglas.

Females sold to a top of 2,800gns and in all, the sale attracted a catalogue of 241-head. With 27 bulls forward, 23 changed hands, and the sale leader on price was Harehead Savivatu, an April 2014 bull from W.A. Penny, Cranshaws, Duns.Out of a home-bred cow and sired by Finlarg Nero, Savivatu was purchased by Phillip Simmers, Backmuir Livestock, Keith, Aberdeenshire. Next up at 11,000gns was Finlarg Senator. This May 2014 bull from Robert and Hazel McNee, Tealing, sold to J.C. and J.S. Helme, Haltree, Hawick. Phillip Simmers was in the market again at 7,500gns. His choice this time was Finlarg Scorpio from the McNees. Good, well grown females sold well and reached 2,800gns for a pair of March-calving heifers from C. and M. Symons, Attonburn, Kelso, and selling to N. Campbell, Currburn, Kelso. Messrs Symons and Campbell were next top at 2,400gns jointly, for another two pairs of in-calf heifers. A greatly increased show of in-calf heifers saw 53 under the hammer to average more than £1,900.

Harehead Farms led the way in the bulling heifer section when its pen of four sold for 1,750gns to Phillip Simmers, as well as a single selling at the same money to Pat Lambert (C.G. Greig Farms, Pitlochie, Cupar, Fife). AVERAGES
